Should you Upgrade Your Diamond?

Before we delve into the turbulent waters of a ring upgrade, let’s take a quick reminder that any purchase into a diamond ring is a losing investment. As such, when choosing a larger and/or better quality diamond to replace your current diamond, you will most likely lose money on the value of the current diamond. With that out of the way, let’s look at your options.

Online Upgrade Programs

Luckily, our two preferred sellers have desirable programs to meet such needs. Both Blue Nile and James Allen offer upgrade programs where they will credit you 100% of your diamond’s original cost (this is probably the only time you will ever get 100% of your money back and break even)! The only catch (because there’s always a catch...) is that the new diamond must be at least twice the price of the original diamond purchased.

Besides the price stipulation, the only other thing to keep in mind is if this new diamond will fit the setting on your ring. Quite frankly, short of the new diamond being gigantic, or your original ring having a complex Antique, Cathedral, or Pavé setting, that shouldn’t be an issue. So there you have it. An easy and value-based method to upgrade your ring without flushing the original money spent down the toilet. If you’re looking for an upgrade and would like some help in getting the best diamond possible while just hitting that 2x price threshold, reach out to us, and we’ll pick out a stunner for you!
