What would it cost to replicate Katy Perry’s Ring From Orlando Bloom?

When Katy Perry got engaged to Orlando Bloom on Valentine's day in 2019, the buzz was on how unique her gorgeous engagement ring is. Other than going with a traditional solitaire setting with a round Diamond, or even an Emerald or Oval Diamond which have been more popular as of late, the celebrity duo went with a more English flare in choosing a cluster ring featuring a Pink Diamond and surrounding eight cluster Diamonds. It's rather cute that they went with a cluster ring that looks like a flower and petals, given that his name is Bloom. Plus, they named their first child Daisy in keeping with the floral theme. But enough about the cutesy couple, we're interested in the ring, so let's get to it!

Breaking down the Katy Perry Ring

While there's been some debate on whether the center stone of the ring is, in fact, a Pink Diamond or a Ruby, we're going to assume, given the couple's financial status, that they would opt for a Fancy Diamond and go with a Pink Diamond. Needless to say, this will bring the price tag up to astronomical levels, as the Oval center stone looks to be about 4-Carats in size. Rounding out the ring is a gold setting featuring eight separate round diamonds, which look to be around 1-Carat each. The net effect is a very unique and playful engagement ring choice. Assuming everything included is at a Very Good Cut with an above-average Color and Clarity, we can start breaking this down to see what it would cost to duplicate.

Finding a Fancy Colored Diamond in this size is difficult. Luckily, our favorite sellers have spectacular inventories at their disposal. At Blue Nile, we found a 3.93-Carat Light Pink Oval Diamond. It is simply a stunning stone, and carries with it a spectacular cost of $675,921. While that amount is huge for most, it's an excellent price. Let's take a look at this stone's specifics.

  • Carat - 3.93

  • Color - Light Pink

  • Clarity - SI1

  • Polish - Very Good

  • Symmetry - Good

  • Fluorescence - None

  • L/W (mm) - 12.46 x 8.30

  • L/W Ratio - 1.50

Reviewing the specifics of the stone, you might think, "Hey! The Ring Adviser! An SI1 Clarity, Good Symmetry. Isn't this the type of grades you tell us to avoid?" Well, yes, if we were dealing with a typical Diamond. A Pink Diamond of this weight is so rare that you simply do the best you can. This is a case where the Carat and Color are so significant that they easily trump the more technical aspects of the Diamond's Cut and Clarity.

With the Diamond settled, all you would need to finish the look would be the Cluster setting. Featuring eight separate 1-Carat Diamonds, each of these can be had for around $6,000 for an excellent example. Rounding up a bit, we can speculate the setting would be approximately $50,000, which brings our total to about $750,000. There's no doubt that higher-end custom jewelers could perhaps find a cleaner center stone, but this would quickly bump the price to over a million dollars.

Next, let's see how close we can get the same style ring with a similar presence while sticking to a "semi-reasonable" budget?

Budget Katy Perry ENGAGEMENT RING

In keeping with the spirit of Katy's ring, we will keep the Oval Cut but opt for a far more affordable Pink Sapphire. This allows us to stay in the 4-Carat range and pick up a genuinely spectacular gem.

While James Allen has around a dozen Pink Sapphires that would fit the description, we think this 3.55 Carat Oval Pink Sapphire example has excellent specifications and is priced fairly, given the size, at $17,750. The Sapphire can easily be paired with a $1,140 18K Yellow Gold Tear Drops Halo Diamond Engagement Ring setting, featuring eight-petal-like teardrops surrounding the center stone. This combination will give you a very flower vibe with the correct color combination and come up under $20,000.

So how big of a difference is there between our proposed "budget" ring and the speculated Katy Perry engagement ring? Probably the most significant factor is the setting. If you took our target Pink Sapphires center gem and paired it with the custom eight 1-Carat Diamond setting from Katy's ring, you'd have a very convincing facsimile for about $75,000, which is 1/10th the entry-level price of Katy's ring. So there you have it, a lite version and a budget-friendly version of Katy Perry's ring for 900% less.
