What would it cost to replicate Lindsay Lohan's Ring From Bader Shammas?

In recent celebrity engagement news, former "Mean Girls" and Disney alumn Lindsay Lohan announced her engagement to boyfriend Bader Shammas. Lohan, who shot to stardom with the classic Disney remake of "The Parent Trap," has been a staple in Hollywood for decades. Appearing in hit movies like "Herbie: Fully Loaded" and the aforementioned "Mean Girls," it is speculated that Lohan has been dating Shammas since 2019, whom she met in Dubai and comes from the banking industry. But enough about the couple, we're interested in the ring, so let's get to it!

Breaking down the Lindsay Lohan Ring

The engagement ring appears to have been made by American jeweler Harry Winston. While Lohan didn’t specify this directly, she did tag the famous jeweler in her engagement post. Lindsay’s ring appears to be a 4 or 5-carat Cushion Cut Diamond in a traditional solitaire setting. Assuming a Very Good Cut with an above-average Color and a Clarity in the VVS1-2 range, most experts are pricing it out in the $150,000 to $250,000 range. Let’s break this down to see what it would cost to duplicate and see if we can do better.

At James Allen, we found a handful of GIA Certified Cushion Diamonds above our 4-Carat threshold with the requisite high-value specifications. There’s a bit of price sensitivity in this range, but generally, pricing is quite linear. Looking at the available Diamonds, our favorite selection is this 4.64 Carat Cushion Diamond for $100,800 with the following specifications.

  • Carat - 4.64

  • Color - G

  • Clarity - VVS2

  • Cut - Ideal

  • Polish - Very Good

  • Symmetry - Very Good

  • Fluorescence - None

  • L/W (mm) - 9.83x9.3

  • L/W Ratio - 1.06

With the Diamond settled, all you would need to finish the look would be a classic solitaire Platinum setting, which wouldn't run you more than a couple of thousand dollars. Thus, all in you should have a duplicate to Lindsay Lohan's engagement ring for $105,000, significantly cheaper than the $150,000 to $250,000 estimate by using one of our favorite online sellers.

Next, let's see how close we can get the same style ring with a similar presence while sticking to a "semi-reasonable" budget?

Budget Lindsay Lohan ENGAGEMENT RING

As a goal, let’s try and put together a comparable Lindsay Lohan Engagement ring for about 50% less. With the main cost factor being the center Diamond, to achieve this 50% reduction we will have to scale back the size of the stone from 4.64-Carat to around 3-Carat. Our choice for this comparison is this 3.02 Carat Cushion Diamond from James Allen for $45,740.

The specifics for this stone are Color G, Clarity VVS2, Ideal Cut with Excellent Polish, and Symmetry. Our main argument for this stone is that, while it is more than 50% less than our original stone, its L/W (mm) is 8.3x7.98.

So how big of a difference is there between our proposed "budget" ring and the speculated Lindsay Lohan engagement ring? When viewing the Table from above, our 4.6-Carat Cushion diamond measures 91.4 mm2). In contrast, the 3-Carat budget diamond measures 66.23 mm2. That equates to approximately 38% greater surface Table area for the Lohan Diamond than the budget selection. For this increase, you are paying a premium of 50%. While we've seen far more egregious fluctuations in the past when analyzing these types of increases, that still is a disparity and an opportunity for significant savings.
